In order to support the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 14 and obtain recommendations for the regional dialogue prior to the 2025 United Nations Ocean Conference, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) held the Sixth Asia-Pacific Day for the Ocean. This event, which took place in Bangkok, Thailand, on October 30 2023, was aimed to demonstrate ocean initiatives from various sectors and groups in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as strengthen cooperation for the conservation and sustainable use of marine resources.

On this occasion, Annisya Rosdiana as Ocean Accounts project leader at the Fisheries Resource Center of Indonesia (FRCI) – Rekam Nusantara Foundation was a panelist in the Interactive Dialogue C, themed 'Ocean-Based Climate Action'. This session was moderated by Dr. Aneta Nikolova from UNESCAP, and included a number of panelists from the Indonesian and Samoan government institutions, academics, NGOs, the UN, and FAO.

As the key takeaways, FRCI emphasized that climate change mitigation and marine conservation are a collaborative effort that require global involvement from all parties and countries. The compilation of Ocean Accounts, especially for blue carbon ecosystems, can serve as a means for obtaining comprehensive and reliable data to inform policy and the management of Marine Protected Areas and fisheries. Prioritizing the protection of marine and coastal ecosystems is the key to achieving coastal communities resilience.
