Rekam Nusantara Foundation unit Fisheries Resource Center of Indonesia (FRCI) brought the Saleh Bay snapper-grouper fishery to the world stage at the 9th World Fisheries Congress in Seattle, Washington, USA. This international conference, held on March 3-7 2024, was organized by the World Council of Fisheries Societies and attended by delegates from all over the globe as a forum for exchanging ideas about the latest progress and current issues in the world of fisheries.

As a representative of FRCI, Moh. Natsir, Ph.D. delivered an oral presentation entitled "Rebuilding Stocks for Small-Scale Snapper and Grouper Fisheries in Saleh Bay, Indonesia" at the Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture session, part of the Fisheries Governance Improvement program.

Since 2020, the Fishery Improvement Project (FIP) has been implemented in Saleh Bay, West Nusa Tenggara to achieve sustainable snapper and grouper fisheries. In this presentation, FRCI brought forward a series of recommendations for stock rebuilding strategies obtained through the Method Evaluation and Risk Assessment (MERA) approach in support of the development of Harvest Control Rules (HCRs). The recommendations include output control, seasonal closure, and size limit. Through these measures, it is hoped that the future snapper and grouper stocks in Saleh Bay can be maintained and even improved.
