Saleh Bay is one of the most important fisheries areas in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). However, high fishing pressure and environmental change can threaten the sustainability of fisheries resources in this region. Therefore, an Ecosystem-Based Fisheries Management (EBFM) approach is considered important to ensure sustainable fisheries.

The Scientific Forum for Sustainable Fisheries Management (FIP2B) NTB held an Ecosystem-Based Fisheries Management (EBFM) study workshop on December 18-19, 2024 at Santika Hotel, Mataram. This activity is part of a study conducted by FIP2B NTB in collaboration with various parties, including Rekam Nusantara Foundation (RNF), National Innovation Research Agency (BRIN), the NTB Marine and Fisheries Agency (Dislutkan), IPB University, Murdoch University, and The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) Australia.

The workshop was attended by various relevant parties, such as the NTB Provincial Marine and Fisheries Office, including representatives from BRIN, academics from Mataram University, Gunung Rinjani University, and Samawa University, as well as IPB University, nongovernmental conservation organizations such as Indonesia Conservation Bentang Alam Nusantara Foundation, Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), and other parties involved in the EBFM study.

The workshop aimed to explore management scenarios that can be integrated into the Ecopath with Ecosim (EwE) model. EwE is a mathematical model that can be used in fisheries management to analyze interactions between different species in aquatic ecosystems. On the first day, Mohammad Natsir and Intan Destianis Hartati presented an introduction to EBFM and the development of EBFM studies in Saleh Bay (Ecopath). Furthermore, participants were invited to discuss the development of management scenarios and EBFM modeling to be integrated into the EwE model. On the second day, the discussion results from the previous day were used to run the Ecosim scenario.
