Liukang Tangaya Conservation Area has been designated as a Conservation Area by the Decree of the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries No. 72 of 2022. However, since the designation, there has been no management activity carried out by the South Sulawesi Provincial Government. Through a collaboration between Rekam Nusantara, a unit of the Fisheries Resource Center of Indonesia, and the Marine and Fisheries Service of South Sulawesi Province, we conducted various activities with the service and the local community, and assisted in the preparation of a conservation area management plan.

A management plan document is important for an area that has been designated as a conservation area. This document is important as a guide in managing marine protected areas, so that the targets and objectives of the inauguration of the Liukang Tangaya Marine Protected Area can be realized. On November 28-29, 2024 in Makassar, we held a Focus Group Discussion to discuss the draft management plan of Liukang Tangaya Marine Protected Area and obtain various inputs from various parties present. The event was attended by 45 people consisting of the South Sulawesi Marine and Fisheries Service, Tourism Office, BPSPL Makassar, BKKPN Kupang, South Sulawesi Tourism Office, Pangkep District Fisheries Office, South Sulawesi Provincial BANGDA Agency, Hasanuddin University, ITBM Balikdiwa, Cokroaminoto University Makassar, Bosowa University, Romang Celebes Foundation, Deco Dive Indonesia, Sulawesi Community Foundation.
