Mangrove ecosystems play an important role in protecting coastal areas. Not only that, mangrove forests are also a source of income for the community. The potential of both mangrove trees and biota that live in these habitats have economic value that can fulfill daily needs. However, as humans who have wisdom, it is important to participate in maintaining and preserving the existence of mangrove forests.
On November 4-11, 2024, FRCI held a Talk Show event with the slogan “Laskar Mangrove Penjaga Bumi”. This event also presented Professor Nana Kariada Tri Martuti (State University of Semarang) and the head of the mangrove activist group in the Kampung Laut area, Kutawaru, Tanggul Tlare, Demak. We invited the village youth (Karang Taruna and tourism activists) to discuss together and build awareness of the mangrove ecosystem. Some of the topics discussed in the discussion included:
1. The role and function of mangroves for coastal areas
2. Utilization of mangroves into products of economic value
3. The role of communities in rehabilitating and monitoring mangrove ecosystems
4. The role of communities and young people in managing and developing mangrove ecotourism
In organizing this event we also collaborated with the Central Java Provincial Marine and Fisheries Service, the Central Java Marine Service Branch, the Central Java Forestry Service Branch, the District Government, and the Village Government. Through talk shows and movie screenings we also hope that this event can provide new enthusiasm for young people to contribute more in managing and developing mangrove forests.
