THE IMPORTANCE OF CATCH DATA SYNCHRONIZATION, FRCI ATTENDS 26th WORKING PARTY ON TROPICAL TUNAS DATA PREPARATORY MEETING

Catch data is essential for determining appropriate fisheries management strategies. In this case, it is important to synchronize the data produced. In some cases, for example, catch data presented by the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC) differs from national catch data. This can be caused by differences in the methodology used. This condition is a special concern for IOTC and Indonesia to update the methodology used, because the previous methodology is old and a little confusing.

In June 2024, Indonesia and the IOTC Secretariat held a meeting to discuss the "Indonesia Preparatory Meeting for the 26th Working Parting on Tropical Tunas". This activity aims to finalize the re-estimation of Indonesia's annual catch data for 2010-2022 and prepare the Indonesian delegation at the 26th Working Party on Tropical Tunas Data Preparatory Meeting. The 2-day activity at Luminor Hotel Padjajaran, Bogor was attended by 21 participants supported by the Directorate of Fisheries Resources Management and supported by the Sustainable Fisheries and Communities Trust (SFACT). The outputs targeted at this meeting include a paper on re-estimating Indonesia's annual catch data 2010-2022 and a paper for the Indonesian delegation at the 26th Working Parting on Tropical Tunas Data Preparatory Meeting.
