Mangroves are plants that are known to have various benefits. Its existence needs to be preserved and maintained. To celebrate “World Mangrove Day 2024”, the Fisheries Resource Center of Indonesia invites school children to get involved in mangrove conservation efforts. This activity was held on July 26, 2024 in schools along the coast of Central Java. This activity was divided into 3 sessions, namely interactive classes, mangrove planting, and painting competitions.

The interactive class session invites students to learn and understand the broad role of mangroves, especially in sequestering carbon, protecting beaches and biodiversity, as well as a place for community livelihoods. This activity was exciting, fun, and interactive between the speakers and students. Not only that, students were also introduced to mangrove seedling planting activities. The students also went directly to the mangrove restoration site on the coast of Central Java. In addition, students were also invited to explore their knowledge of mangroves by expressing it in the form of paintings. The introduction of the importance of mangroves for the ecosystem to students is a good step to provide full awareness that the contribution of protecting nature can be done by anyone, including children. Armed with fun and explorative learning, it is hoped that the younger generation can be active in environmental conservation.
