Currently, blue carbon is still a hot issue and a concern in Indonesia. Indonesia's natural potential to store a lot of blue carbon is something to be proud of. Besides mangrove forests, seagrass ecosystems are also known to be a source of carbon storage. Seagrass ecosystems are known to utilize carbon dioxide (CO2) for photosynthesis and store it in the form of biomass, which is currently known as blue carbon.

With this in mind, the Fisheries Resource Center of Indonesia together with the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries - Republic of Indonesia and GRID-Arendal, and supported by Norad - Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation,  organized the “High Integrity Blue Carbon Market Technical Workshop”. The event was held in Jakarta from June 11-14, 2024. This workshop was not only held indoors, but participants were also invited to do hands-on practice on Pari Island, Kepulauan Seribu on June 13, 2024.

Participants came from government, NGOs and other partners and were facilitated by international speakers. The 3-day event was divided into 3 main topics, including

1. Community-based projects in the blue carbon market

2. :National governance for high-integrity blue carbon

3. Utilizing seagrass carbon values to support national greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting
