Lamongan Regency was designated as the location for the grouper and snapper management pilot program in WPPNRI 712 as part of the GEF-5 Grant “Enabling Transboundary Cooperation for Sustainable Management of the Indonesian Seas”. This designation is a recommendation from the results of the assessment of fisheries management experts from IPB University. One of the activities for implementing this pilot program is a field visit to three villages in Lamongan Regency, namely Labuhan Village, Blimbing Village, and Kendang Semangkon Village. The activity was held on September 14-16, 2021, and was attended by various stakeholders including the Directorate of Fish Resource Management, Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), FAO Project ISLME, Brondong Nusantara Fishery Port, Department of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (DKP) of East Java Province, DKP Lamongan Regency, Fisheries Extension Lamongan, REKAM Nusantara, and local community leaders. The field visit was carried out in the context of coordination between the KKP and local stakeholders, as well as for the purpose of identifying priority programs for improving the management of grouper and snapper fisheries in Lamongan Regency. REKAM Nusantara, through the student internship program of Universitas Brawijaya, has implemented a fish landing monitoring program in Kandang Semangkon Village and Blimbing Village to support grouper and snapper fisheries management activities in the Java Sea. The formation of cooperation between the government, non-government institutions, universities, and fishing communities (Rukun Nelayan) is expected to be a model for snapper grouper fisheries management in Indonesia.
