Supporting the Progress of Indonesian Fisheries, FRCI Presented 9 Papers at the 2023 National Seminar on Sustainable Fisheries and Marine Management

Sustainable fisheries management is a collaborative effort involving various parties, hence it is necessary to harmonize the latest information about fisheries between academics, government, business actors, and the community. For this reason, the West Nusa Tenggara Province Scientific Forum for Sustainable Fisheries Management (FIP2B-NTB) in collaboration with the WNT Provincial Marine and Fisheries Agency, Mataram University, Mataram University Marine Science Student Association (HIMAKEL), Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), and Rekam Nusantara Foundation unit Fisheries Resource Center of Indonesia (RNF-FRCI) unit held a National Seminar on Sustainable Fisheries and Marine Management in 2023 with the theme "Scientific Studies and Innovation in Marine and Fisheries Technology to Welcome a Golden Indonesia 2045".

The seminar, which was held at the Golden Palace Hotel, Mataram, WNT on Monday, November 27 2023, was opened by Dr. Soraya Gigentika, S.Pi., M.Sc. as Chair of FIP2B-NTB, followed by an opening speech from Prof. Ir. Bambang Hari Kusumo, M.Agr.St., Ph.D. as Chancellor of Mataram University. The event also invited three keynote speakers, namely Dr. Agus Suherman, S.Pi, M.Si as Plt. Director General of Capture Fisheries, Prof. Ocky Karna Radjasa as Head of the Earth and Maritime Research Organization – National Research and Innovation Agency, and Muslim, ST., M.Si. as Head of the WNT Province Maritime and Fisheries Agency.

Crowd Data Crawling (CDC) presentation by Prof. Budy Wiryawan (Doc: FRCI)

On this occasion, Prof. Budy Wiryawan from the Department of Fisheries Resource Utilization of IPB University and RNF-FRCI gave a presentation on the Development of Independent Fish Data Collection through Crowd Data Crawling (CDC) for Business Intelligence Practitioners and Fisheries Management. In addition, RNF-FRCI presented 9 papers, namely:

1. Biological Aspects of Growth and Reproduction of Brown-Marbled Grouper (Epinephelus fuscoguttatus) as the Target of Fisheries Management in Saleh Bay, West Nusa Tenggara (delivered by Yudi Herdiana, best presenter)
2. Initiation of Snapper and Grouper Certification in Saleh Bay for Sustainable Fisheries Management and Fishers Economic Improvement (delivered by Intan Destianis Hartati)
3. Ecosystem Accounts to Support Indonesian Fisheries Management: Case Study in Saleh Bay, West Nusa Tenggara Province
4. Assessment of the Flows to the Economy and Environment in Grouper and Snapper Fisheries Activities in Saleh Bay, West Nusa Tenggara Province (delivered by Annisya Rosdiana, best presenter)
5. Application of the Method Evaluation and Risk Assessment (MERA) for Small-Scale Grouper Fisheries in Indonesia (presented by Mohamad Natsir)
6. Mangrove Community Structure in Central Java and Sumbawa: Diversity, Density, and Implications for Sustainable Management (presented by Nunik Iriyanti Ramadhan)
7. Potential for Carbon Sequestration in the Saleh Bay Seagrass Ecosystem: Diversity and Productivity (presented by Agum Rhismanda)
8. Exploration of Carbon Stocks in the Mangrove Ecosystem of the North and South Coasts of Central Java Province and Saleh Bay, West Nusa Tenggara Province (presented by Dhira Kurniawan Saputra)
9. Empowerment of Coastal Communities: Insights into Mangrove Ecosystem Dynamics, Knowledge Gaps, and Aspirations in Demak and Jepara Regencies (presented by Fiki Hidayati)

Through this activity, it is hoped that the dissemination of research results and communication between academics and government can be achieved to realize sustainable fisheries and marine management in WNT Province.
