Not only does it compile data on the marine environment and socio-economic conditions, the Ocean Accounts (OA) can also be integrated with system dynamics—a computer-assisted approach to policy analysis and design. To develop this system, the Directorate of Marine Biodiversity and Conservation of the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (DMBC-MMAF) together with the Rekam Nusantara Foundation unit Fisheries Resource Center of Indonesia (FRCI) held a focus group discussion entitled "Developing Ocean Accounts Indonesia Using a System Dynamics Approach".

The activity, which was carried out in Swiss Belinn, Bogor and via an online platform on Wednesday, October 25th 2023, was attended by over 30 participants from government agencies, universities, associations, and non-governmental organizations. During the sessions, Dr. Firdaus Agung, Director of DMBC-MMAF, presented the compilation of OA in Indonesia, Dr. Suryo Kusumo from Yayasan Karang Lestari Indonesia (YKLI) presented the initial concept of preparing a Dynamic System for OA, and a focused discussion was held, facilitated by Dr. Irfan Yulianto from Rekam-FRCI and Dr. Suryo Kusumo.

Through this discussion, input was obtained from experts regarding data validation and system dynamics priority locations. In the future, it is hoped that an integrated system can be built to support the right decision-making for sustainable development, from marine spatial planning to issuing permits and modeling the future of the ecosystem.
