In 2020, the Indonesia Climate Change Trust Fund (ICCTF) launched marine-based activities in two group areas, namely Bali-Nusa Tenggara and Papua. Fisheries activities, particularly red snapper, is a focused survey in Bali (Badung Regency and Denpasar City), West Nusa Tenggara (NTB; East Lombok Regency, Sumbawa Besar Regency, Dompu Regency, and Bima Regency), and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT; Kupang City, West Manggarai Regency, and Rote Ndao Regency), which generally aims to develop a profile of fishing activities, supply chain and marketing systems, and fisheries management initiatives. The red snapper fishery survey, part of the ICCTF Project Grant Package (GP) 7, was conducted in February 2022 through interviews with key figures and focused group discussions. The parties involved as key figures are the local government and fishery entrepreneurs, while the focused group discussion involves representatives of fishermen's groups as participants. Based on the survey results, the fulfillment of red snapper for local consumption and export in Bali mostly (90-95%) comes from outside the Bali region. 60% of the red snapper marketed in and through Bali comes from East Java (Kangean Island, Sapeken, Banyuwangi, and Probolinggo), 20% from NTB, and 5% from NTT and Makassar. Red snapper production in NTB is dominated by red snapper species Lutjanus malabaricus and Aphareus rutilans. Lutjanus malabaricus is also often caught by fishermen in NTT as well as other types of red snappers, such as the humpback snapper species (Lutjanus vita, Lutjanus bohar, and Pinjalo pinjalo). Most of the red snapper fishermen in NTB are small-scale fishers with boat capacities ranging from 1 to 1 s.d. 9 GT, while in NTT there are two groups of red snapper fishermen, namely fishermen with boats <5 GT and 10-30 GT.
