The blue carbon ecosystem is a coastal ecosystem that is able to absorb and store carbon from the atmosphere and regulate the global climate. To support the sustainable management of blue carbon ecosystems, the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the Global Ocean Accounts Partnership (GOAP), the University of New South Wales (UNSW), the Australian Government, and the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (MMAF) Indonesia supported by the Rekam Nusantara Foundation unit Fisheries Resource Center of Indonesia (FRCI) held a "Workshop on Ocean Accounting for the Management of Blue Carbon Ecosystems". The hybrid workshop was held at Novotel Golf Resort & Convention Center, Bogor on 17-18 October 2023.

On the first day's session, presentations were conveyed by recipients of the Blue Carbon Accelerator Fund (BCAF) from IUCN in Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, namely the 1) Selva Shrimp program by Blueyou Consulting Ltd, 2) Enhance Community Resilience through the Blue Carbon Framework in Indonesia by the Rekam Nusantara Foundation, 3) Blue Carbon Conservation in North Nias, North Sumatra by Conservation Indonesia, and 4) New Ireland Mangrove and Seagrass Biodiversity, Conservation, Livelihoods, and Blue Carbon Project Conservation by Infinity Blue.

On the second day, blue carbon accounting training and knowledge sharing sessions and booths were held, featuring the Australian government's Department of Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Water, Directorate of Coastal and Small Island Utilization of the MMAF, IUCN, GOAP, Konservasi Indonesia, Rekam Nusantara Foundation, The Nature Conservancy Indonesia, Wetlands International Indonesia, CarbonEthics, and WRI Indonesia, as well as discussion sessions regarding the exploration of blue funding and accounting opportunities.

Through this activity, it is hoped that knowledge will be built regarding ocean accounting, as well as cooperation and coordination between institutions for sustainable blue carbon ecosystem management.
