The wedgefish and giant guitarfish trade merchants in Java’s North Coast, especially in Central Java Province, are important elements in sustainable fishery management initiatives. The documentary film is one of the outputs of the shark and ray management program by the REKAM Nusantara Foundation and the Central Java Provincial Government, supported by the Save Our Seas Foundation (SOSF). Filming was taken for 18 days (6 to 23 September 2021), covering cities/regencies that became centers of fishery activities in Central Java, namely Tegal, Semarang, Pemalang, and Rembang. Some of the places where the film was shot include fish landing ports, restaurants, and fishing villages whose residents are actively involved in processing the catch of wedgefish and giant guitarfish. Darmasandi Village, for example, is one of the centers for smoking fish which is close to Tegalsari Harbor, Tegal. In addition to these places, the REKAM Nusantara team also participated directly in fishing activities with fishermen. Other parties involved in the documentary film recording process were fishermen, fishery extension workers, and port staff. In general, this documentary will contain information on the status of utilization, sustainability, and efforts to manage the wedgefish and giant guitarfish fisheries on Java’s North Coast. Documentary films are made as a means of awareness campaigns for the public, especially merchants, to be able to actively participate in conserving the resources of wedgefish and giant guitarfish.
