Through the framework of Global Environment Facility 5 implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), FRCI Rekam Nusantara Foundation conducted a study of the Fisheries Management Plan (RPP) for the State Fisheries Management Area of the Republic of Indonesia (WPPNRI) 712 (Java Sea) and 573 (South Indian Ocean). This study was conducted in accordance with the Decree of the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, which requires a review of the RPP every five years. Through the direction of the Directorate of Fish Resources Management of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, a team of experts was formed and collaborated with the teaching staff of the Department of Fisheries Resources Utilization (PSP) of IPB University. The studies carried out include updating fishery data and information, evaluating and exploring issues and problems, determining priority issues, formulating goals and targets, and preparing action plans for the next five years. The RPP study was carried out during May to July 2021 by involving stakeholders within the scope of WPPNRI, such as the provincial Marine and Fisheries Service, academics, central government, and relevant port authorities. Adjusting to the development of COVID-19 cases, meetings were held both face-to-face and online. In the RPP WPPNRI 712 text document, the results of the study have determined fish species prioritized to be managed, namely fish species that have high economic value and strategic value, such as squid and snapper, as well as species of fish that are threatened with extinction, such as wedgefish and giant guitarfish.
