Ocean Accounts are a tool for making evidence-based policy to support sustainable development. As part of the Global Ocean Accounts Partnership (GOAP), the Fisheries Resource Center of Indonesia (FRCI) participated in the ecosystem accounting pilot development program in Maldives. The first activity in this program is the Natural Capital Accounting (NCA) Public Lecture at the Maldives National University, held on Wednesday, March 8 2023.
The first session of the public lecture was presented by Jordan Gacutan from UNSW Law & Justice who delivered a material on the importance of Natural Capital, ecosystem services, and measurement of Natural Capital for environmental management, and social-economy. The second session was presented by Maria G. Alarcon Blazquez from UNSW Law & Justice regarding how to measure and manage Natural Capital. The material for the third session was delivered by Annisya Rosdiana from FRCI regarding the global progress of ocean NCA and a case study of Ocean Accounts Indonesia from the initiation, development, to implementation processes.
Public lecture by Annisya Rosdiana of FRCI.
It is hoped that this lecture can provide insights and knowledge for the Maldives National University students and foster their interest for sustainable ecosystem management, especially through NCA.
