Education on endangered fish species, especially wedgefish and giant guitarfish, to elementary school students in Central Java Province is one of the agenda for the Rhino Ray Conservation in Indonesia program promoted by the REKAM Nusantara Foundation and received funding support from the Save Our Seas Foundation (SOSF). Education and outreach activities were held last December, in collaboration with five schools, namely SDN 01 Tanjungsari and SDN 01 Tasikagung in Rembang Regency, SDN Kebon Sawah and SDN Growong Kidul in Pati Regency, and SDN 02 Tegalsari in Tegal Regency. A total of 387 students were involved in educational and outreach activities, which included material presentations and colouring competitions. The emphasis of the material presented was knowledge of the types of sharks and rays in general, as well as the types of sharks and rays that are categorized as vulnerable and endangered. The five elementary schools were chosen based on the students’ background, most of whom are children from fishing families and coastal residents. The education given to children is expected to offer knowledge about the status of wedgefish and giant guitarfish, which are decreasing in numbers in nature. It is hoped that the information obtained by the children can also reach their parents and families so that awareness for the survival of the wedgefish and giant guitarfish, especially in Central Java Province, can be maintained. In the outreach activity, the children enthusiastically asked about wedgefish and giant guitarfish while participating in a colouring competition. The competition winners received prizes in the form of pins, posters, stickers, and key chains with the campaign's theme for the protection of wedgefish and giant guitarfish.
