Supporting Sustainable Fisheries, IPB University, FRCI, and EDF Indonesia Host the 64th Asian Fisheries Society (AFS) Council Meeting

To discuss the latest developments in the field of fisheries science, the Department of Fisheries Resource Utilization, IPB University together with the Rekam Nusantara Foundation unit Fisheries Resource Center of Indonesia (FRCI) and Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) Indonesia held the 64th Asian Fisheries Society (AFS) Council Meeting. This event was held on June 26-27th 2023 at the Santika Hotel, Bogor, and was attended by 25 participants, who are academics from various universities and institutions in Asia and Australia.

The first day's program was opened with reports from Prof. Dr. Neil Loneragan as AFS President, Prof. Dr. Murni Marlina Abd Karim as AFS Secretary, and Dr. Nur Leena Wong Wai Sin as AFS Treasurer, followed by reports from each branch and sections within AFS as well as committee reports. Discussions were also held on the topic of increasing the engagement and raising the profile of AFS, followed by the election of the next term's AFS president and discussions regarding the AFS 2030 strategy.

The second day's program included the introductions and discussions with AFS partners, namely the Rekam Nusantara Foundation unit FRCI and EDF Indonesia. The next agenda continued with a visit to the Germplasm Research Installation for Freshwater Fisheries in Cijeruk, Bogor Regency.

Through this event, it is hoped that the participants will be able to gain an understanding of the general framework of fisheries management, discuss technological developments in fisheries science and the best practices in sustainable fisheries, as well as build networks with colleagues from Asian countries and Australia.
