To promote sustainable development, new and inclusive ways are needed to gather data that addresses the sustainable use of ocean resources and the mitigation of ocean risks. The issues surrounding the oceans are complex and interconnected, so it is not enough to simply look at statistics in isolation. Instead, we will benefit from an innovative and trans-disciplinary approach to ocean data, which integrates different types of data and disciplines for effective ocean governance and actions. Ocean Accounting is an innovative framework that integrates ocean data with social and environmental conditions for better ocean governance.

In the upcoming UN World Data Forum 2023, ocean data champions from around the world will gather in Hangzhou, China and in the virtual room to discuss and showcase innovative partnerships on ocean data.
