Monitoring and Evaluation of Sustainable Snapper and Grouper Fisheries Management in West Nusa Tenggara Province

To formulate science-based policies towards optimizing fisheries management, the Scientific Forum for Sustainable Fisheries Management of West Nusa Tenggara Province (FIP2B NTB) together with the Marine Affairs and Fisheries Service (Dislutkan NTB), the Rekam Nusantara Foundation unit Fisheries Resource Center of Indonesia (FRCI), and WCS Indonesia held the "Monitoring and Evaluation of Sustainable Management of Snapper and Grouper Fisheries in West Nusa Tenggara (WNT) Province". The event, which was held at the Aston Inn Hotel, Mataram on February 21st 2024, was attended by representatives from various government agencies, the police force, the Indonesian Navy, port heads, universities, the Indonesian Fisher's Association, business ventures, community surveillance groups, fisher groups, and NGOs.

The event was opened by Muslim, ST., M.Si. as Head of the Dislutkan NTB with an explanation about the policies for sustainable management of marine resources and fisheries in WNT, followed by a presentation on "Harvest Strategy for Snapper and Grouper in Indonesian FMA 713 & 573" by Fery Sudiawan, Ph.D from the Directorate of Fish Resources Management, MMAF and "A General Evaluation Towards the Implementation of the Sustainable Grouper and Snapper Fisheries Management Action Plan (RA P2K2B)” by the Chair of the P2K2B Committee.

Next, there were presentations from Dr. Soraya Gigentika, S.Pi, M.Sc. as Chair of FIP2B NTB regarding "Evaluation of the stock status of snapper-grouper fisheries in 2023" and M. Natsir, Ph.D from FRCI/BRIN regarding "The Progress of the Fisheries Improvement Project (FIP) and Assessment of EAFM, EBFM of Snapper-Grouper in Saleh Bay", followed by an interactive discussion session regarding fisheries management issues and recommendations.

Through this activity, the dissemination of the monitoring results of WNT snapper and grouper stocks in 2023 was completed, as well as the formulation of follow-up plans for the implementation of RA P2K2B.
